Pass & Play Ludo

2 to 4 players. One phone. No internet. Pass it around the room just like the real board.

Everyone's in the same room and nobody wants to download anything. Pass & Play is Ludo the old way — one board, one device, take your turn and hand it on. It works with no internet connection whatsoever, because the whole game runs on the phone in your hand.

Why Pass & Play is the easiest way to get a group playing

  • No accounts for anyone else. Your friends don't install anything, sign up for anything, or wait for a verification code. You type their names in.
  • No connection needed. Aeroplane mode, a basement, a long train journey with no signal — it all works.
  • No lost dice, no arguments. The app enforces the rules, counts the squares, and remembers whose turn it is.
  • Nothing at stake. No coin entry, no rank movement. Just the game.

How to set up a Pass & Play game

  1. Open Pass & PlayInstall Party Ludo from Google Play and choose Pass & Play from the main menu. No sign-in queue and no lobby — this mode runs entirely on your device.
  2. Choose how many are playingPick 2, 3 or 4 players depending on who is in the room. With 2 players the colours sit on opposite corners for a clean head-to-head race.
  3. Enter names and pick coloursType each player's name and let everyone choose their colour — red, green, yellow or blue. Colours stay unique, so picking one someone else has simply swaps them over.
  4. Pick Classic or QuickClassic is the full game where all four tokens must reach home. Quick starts with two tokens already on the board and the first token home wins, for a much shorter match.
  5. Pass the phone and playThe screen shows whose turn it is. That player rolls, moves a token, and hands the phone to the next person. Play continues around the group until someone gets home and wins.

Choosing your player count

Pass & Play seats 2, 3 or 4 players — a little more flexible than online matches, which are set up for 2 or 4. With two players the colours sit on opposite corners so it plays as a clean race; with four the board is full and captures fly. Three players sits nicely in between, and it's the setup that most often matches who actually happens to be in the room.

Classic or Quick — pick by how long you've got

A full Classic game with four players can comfortably run half an hour or more, which is exactly right for a proper game night. If you're squeezing a game in before dinner, Quick mode starts you with two tokens already out and ends the moment someone gets one token home. Both are available in Pass & Play — see Ludo game modes for the details.

New to Ludo? Read this first

Pass & Play uses the standard rules: roll a 6 to bring a token out, move clockwise, land on a lone opponent token to capture it, and shelter on star squares where you can't be captured. If any of that is new, our how to play Ludo guide walks through a full turn, and the complete Ludo rules cover every edge case your group might argue about.

When you want to play apart instead

Pass & Play only works when everyone is physically together. When they're not, create a private room and share the code — online Ludo with friends lets the same group play from different cities. And if nobody's around at all, there's always vs computer.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play Ludo offline without internet?

Yes. Pass & Play runs completely on your device with no connection required — it works on a flight, on the metro, or anywhere with no signal. Online matches and vs-computer matches do need internet, but Pass & Play does not.

How many people can play Ludo on one phone?

Two, three or four. Everyone shares the same device and passes it around as turns come up, exactly like sitting around a physical board.

Do all the players need their own account?

No. Pass & Play needs no accounts for the other players at all — you just type in names and pick colours. It's the fastest way to get a group playing.

Does Pass & Play support Quick mode?

Yes. You can play Pass & Play in either Classic mode (all four tokens home to win) or Quick mode (two tokens start on the board and the first token home wins), just like online matches.

Do Pass & Play games affect my rank or coins?

No. Pass & Play is purely local and casual — there's no coin entry and no effect on your rank. It's just the board game, on a phone.
